Trying to spend less money during the credit crunch is a priority for every family. This article is all about providing ideas on how to save money and keep afloat.
If debt problems are becoming more of an issue during the credit crunch there is no better time than now to identify simple ways to spend less money. There are excesses in every family's spending after essential bills are taken into account. It can be surprising how easy it is to spend less cash and still get the majority of the things needed. Spend Less Cash by Setting a Weekly and Monthly BudgetPut together a full breakdown of any income sources and all forms of expenditure. After paying all the essential bills, work out how much that leaves for food and social activities. Divide this by the number of weeks until the next pay day and stick to those amounts. Try to save 10% of this money in an ISA in case of a credit crunch emergency. Don't Use Cards When Shopping – Avoid Credit Card DebtMost people realise that a person is psychologically vastly more likely to spend money on a credit card than he is to spend actual cash. Don't take cards when out shopping and it will help greatly in terms of avoiding credit card debt. Switch to a Lower Fuel Consumption Car and Spend Less CashIf a powerful car isn't a necessity, why not switch to a more ecologically efficient one and benefit from associated tax advantages? Some of the smaller cars can get up to 45 miles from each gallon of petrol. This could reduce fuel costs by as much as 70%. Use Energy Saving Light Bulbs To Reduce Living ExpensesEnergy saving light bulbs have an estimated life span of over 10,000 hours which is about 10 times longer than traditional bulbs. What's more, they also consume 80% less electricity which helps reduce costs considerably in these times of high electricity prices. Use Car Pooling to Get to Work and Spend Less MoneyThe majority of people drive to work. Driving can be a very costly business, especially in an age of high petroleum prices. Why not take it in turns to pick up your colleagues? This could cut transportation costs by as much as 75% and really help during the current credit crunch. Don't Leave the Shower Running and Spend Less CashAlmost 50% of all the water used is as a result of taking daily showers. Try to cut back on the amount of time spent there. A good way to achieve this objective is through not leaving the shower running whilst brushing teeth or fetching clothes from the other room. Recycle Carrier BagsA lot of stores are starting to charge customers 5p for the provision of carrier bags. Taking out a few bags when shopping can enable people to buy a few additional items of food over the course of a month. Tesco even reward customers with additional club card points. It is surprising how introducing simple changes can help resolve debt problems. After all, debt usually builds as a result of budgetary excesses. If debt remains a problem it might be worth considering entering a Debt Management Plan.
