With the fashion for Vintage items and collectibles, it's hard to find goods at rock bottom prices, before the dealers snap them up. But they are still out there if you know where to look.

Kitchenware

Vintage kitchenware is becoming increasingly collectible. Milnerton Market, open on Saturdays and Sundays, is a great source of all kinds of kitchenware, from old enamel to Royal Albert tea pots.

Charity shops often stock wonderful vintage kitchenware. St. Giles and the Salvation Army shops in Main Road Mowbray have a ready supply at excellent prices. The Cathedral shop in Queen Victoria Street, central Cape Town is another good place to buy kitchen goods and collectibles.

Oasis Charity Shop in Lansdowne Road, Kenilworth is one of the best places to find vintage crockery and kitchen goods. While not as cheap as some other charity shops, expect to pay around one third of retail prices.

Second Hand Books

For the book lover, a pile of books by a favourite author makes a good gift. Charity bookstores often stock remainders from bookstore sales, and Christmas shoppers can pick up new quality books at bargain prices.

The Catholic Welfare Bureau bookshop on the corner of Main and Durban Roads in Mowbray has thousands of well catalogued, clean books at good prices.

Cafda bookstores in Seapoint and Claremont sell second hand and Africana books very reasonably, and proceeds go to charity.

St. Luke’s Hospice, in Kenilworth has an excellent bookstore with almost new and new books for sale at around one quarter of retail prices.

Oasis Charity Shop in Lansdowne Road, Kenilworth is another store with well catalogued, clean books.

Gifts for Children

Toys and games can be expensive. Nazareth House Charity shop in Upper Mill Street, Vredehoek stocks a huge range of donated toys, games and children’s clothing for sale at good prices. It also sells baby equipment and children’s books and tapes.

Vintage Clothing

Finding the right vintage dress or shoes is becoming increasingly difficult. Valkenburg charity shop, in the grounds of the hospital in Observatory often carries vintage clothing, as does the Salvation Army shop in Main Road Mowbray.

Oasis Charity Shop is Lansdowne Road, Kenilworth has a rail of quality vintage clothing, and often also has handbags, shoes, gloves and stoles.
